Hardcopy Artwork

Our experienced artwork department has special training in label design and can help develop your idea from a mock-up design or a previous label sample. We will review the information and ideas you provide and create a high resolution ink jet proof for your approval. You will always be in control of your design through an approval process requiring your satisfaction and sign off. The following requirements will help ensure speed and accuracy of your order.

Hardcopy Artwork Requirements

  • Provide as much detailed information as possible about your design, including size, PMS colors desired, etc.
  • Samples and/or hardcopies provided should be as large and as clean as possible. Make artwork camera ready if possible.
  • A name and phone number of a contact is always helpful should questions arise during production.
  • If a particular typeface is desired please note the name of it. We have an extensive library of fonts and will do our best to match your design. If an exact match is not available, we will get as close as possible and have you approve it.

Electronic Artwork

If you prefer to prepare your own design electronically, we will check your files for printability. Minor adjustments to your files can be made free of charge, if needed. We will create a high resolution ink jet proof for your approval and you will always be in control of your design through an approval process requiring your satisfaction and sign off. The following requirements will help ensure speed and accuracy of your order.

Electronic File Preparation and Requirements

  • Provide a directory of the files on the disk you are sending, indicating the files to be used.
  • Send a hardcopy (printout) of all pieces of artwork, listing all Pantone or process colors used.
  • A name and phone number of a contact is always helpful should questions arise during production.

We can accept any of the following media formats:

  • 3.5" HD Floppy Disk
  • Iomega compatible ZIP Disk (100MB Only)

We have a Macintosh art department at ITWLabels, but our programs are easily compatible with Windows versions of the same. We support the following programs (Adobe Illustrator is most preferred):

  • Adobe Illustrator (version 9.0 or earlier)
  • Adobe Photoshop (version 5.5 or earlier)
  • Quark XPress (version 4.04 or earlier)
  • Adobe Pagemaker (version 6.5 or earlier)
  • Macromedia Freehand (version 8.0.1 or earlier)

Fonts / Typefaces - Include any fonts used to create your file.

  • If Postscript - Include both the screen font and the printer font for each typeface
  • If Truetype - The screen font is also the printer font

Placed Files / Linked Images

Include any placed support files used in your artwork (preferably editable) and fonts used to create them.

Scanned Images/Resolution

Although Photoshop files are acceptable for your artwork, we strongly advise against using it for your entire layout in most cases. The resolution which may be ideal for photographic images makes smaller type and detailed line work appear jagged. It also limits our ability to edit type, should a change be needed. This may better be done using an illustration or layout program.

Optimum file formats for your scanned images are TIFF and EPS. Try to avoid GIF and JPEG formats when possible. Save files as CMYK, grayscale, or bitmap (No RGB, index color, etc.). Also, please remove any extra channels, layers, or paths not needed.

Make sure your resolution is good for the size your artwork is placed.

  • Placed at 100% use 300/ppi for color or grayscale images
  • Placed at 100% use 1200/ppi for bitmap images
